Now that we have covered the winner’s list of the awards, let’s talk about the Slap. King Richard actor Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars for cracking a joke about his wife. The Slap has sparked a debate in Hollywood.

ABC’s Good Morning America’s host George Stephanopoulos said that it was “something we have never seen before, something that is very hard to process: Will Smithe, walking up onto that stage after Chris Rock told a joke about his wife – simply assaulting Chris Rock.”

The incident completely changed the night, however, the Academy has not taken any action yet. TJ Holmes, a correspondent in Los Angeles said “it was ugly, it was embarrassing, it was confusing.”

Will Packer, one of the producers of the show said on Twitter “..I said it wouldn’t be boring.” However, this year’s awards were “not boring” for all the wrong reasons.

So, what did Rock say to aggravate Will. The incident unfolded as he made a joke about Smith’s wife, Pinkett’s cropped hair. Her new hairstyle is not by choice as she is suffering from alopecia, a skin condition that leads to hair loss.

At first, viewers thought it was one of the gimmicks of the show, however, when audiences saw Smith screaming at Rock to not say anything about his wife, the reality settled in.

After the incident, Comedians like Kathy Griffith took to social media to raise concerns that comedians sometimes have to tell offensive jokes, but that does not give audiences the right to walk up to them and assault them.

Jimmy Kimmel also said in a recent podcast that he felt bad for Will Smith. “In a way, I feel bad for Will Smith too, because I think he let his emotions get the better of him, and this should have been one of the great nights of his life, said Kimmel.

Academy representatives have not yet made any remarks on the incident as of yet, but one member of the Academy has called Smith to face disciplinary action.
