Authentic Orange Ginger Sauce Recipe

The orange ginger sauce is a blend of sweet and tangy sauce that is common in various Chinese dishes. The homemade sweet and sour sauce is perfect for various dishes like Chinese Orange Chicken, tofu recipes, and noodles.

The sauce is my family favorite as it’s easy to make and you can toss grilled veggies to serve it as a side dish with rice, grilled chicken, and other dishes.

Orange Chicken is one of the most popular dishes in takeouts. The crispy chicken cubes are coated in a thick tangy sauce which is served with white rice or a side of noodles.

By following this recipe, you can make the sauce at home and fix yourself homemade Orange Chicken. I like to make the sauce beforehand as it can be stored in the refrigerator for over a week. If the sauce is ready, you can quickly fry the chicken, and add it to the sauce.

The sauce can also be used as a dip for seafood, and it works great with beef as well.

This recipe is not spicy, so feel free to add red pepper flakes. If you want gluten-free sauce, you should opt for gluten-free soy sauce. The taste remains the same, so don’t worry about that.

What to Serve with Orange Ginger Sauce

The orange sauce is perfect for stir-fry vegetables, orange chicken, tofu, cauliflower, and noodles.

My favorite recipe is the orange chicken recipe. The chicken is coated in flour, salt, and pepper. The chicken is then fried and tossed in the orange sauce.

Some recipes keep it simple, while some add bell peppers, onion, and other veggies to the sauce to make a full meal. It is mostly served with steamed rice or garlic noodles.

If you have the sauce ready beforehand, you quickly fry chicken and veggies. Just heat the sauce and stir fry the chicken. Garnish with green onion and sesame seeds.

Note

  • Allow the sauce to cool, and then store it in an airtight container and refrigerate. You can store it for over a week.
  • Don’t add the white part of the zest, we only need the colorful part. The white part is bitter and it will change the taste of the sauce.
  • Make sure to use fresh orange juice for the recipe.
  • If you want a sweeter sauce, you can add 2 tbsp of brown sugar.
  • If the sauce is too runny, you can thicken it with slurry.
